The Box Elder Academy of Music and Dancing, built in 1903 by brothers Christian and Peter Christensen, was an extremely popular cultural institution in the area and produced three remarkable brothers - William, Harold and Lew - who transformed dance in the American West. The significance of the Christensen brothers cannot be overstated. Indeed, Willam is attributed with bringing The Nutcracker Ballet to the United States, performing it first at the San Francisco War Memorial Opera House on December 24, 1944. It remains an annual production of the San Francisco Ballet to this day.

Academy Square, as it is now called, was painstakingly restored and resumed operation in 2016. It retains many original features and continues to be a center of Art & Culture in the city, hosting events such as the Academy Center Art Show, the annual Nutcracker Festival, and an impressive lineup of conferences, reunions, and receptions. The facility houses three distinct areas to accommodate a variety of uses - The Academy Conference Center, The Academy Kitchen (currently undergoing renovations), and Academy Pavillion, a beautiful outdoor lawn extension designed to accommodate concerts, festivals, and markets. It is a versatile event facility offering a variety a spaces for small to midsize conferences (up to 300), receptions, meetings, and reunions. Connected to the facility is a well provisioned commercial kitchen with a range of food serving options, including an impressive lineup of caterers.

Academy Square is located in the center of Historic Brigham City, recently named one of the 15 most beautiful historic downtown's in America by Architectural Digest Magazine. It is conveniently located near Interstate 15 in Northern Utah, making transportation to and from the facility convenient and stress free. Adjacent to Academy Square is a newly constructed Hampton Inn, which can accommodate multi-day conferences and gatherings. Within walking distance of the square is a delightful collection of shops, restaurants, and small businesses to accommodate visitor requirements.
